How to get started with Silverlight development

via Mike Snows Silverlight Blog by mike.snow on 3/29/08

For development, I will be using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. You will need to install the Silverlight Tools Beta 1 chainer. This chainer will install the following components:

  • Silverlight 2 Beta 1.
  • Silverlight 2 SDK Beta 1.
  • KB949325 for Visual Studio 2008.
  • Silverlight Tools Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008.

It also includes:

  • Visual Basic and C# Project templates.
  • Intellisense and code generators for XAML.
  • Debugging of Silverlight applications.
  • Web reference support.
  • Integration with Expression Blend.

Before proceeding, verify you have the following requirements:

  • Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista or Windows XP.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Standard or above .
  • Optional - Microsoft Expression Blend.

If you have any version of the SDK, KB or Silverlight Tools already installed you will need to uninstall them before setting up the new version.

To get started, click here. This will take you to the Microsoft Download Center where you can download the Silverlight Tools Beta 1 chainer.

Once the file downloads open the file and click the "Run" button to continue through installation.
